Planning & Zoning Commission Approved NextEra's Phase 1 and Phase 2. We need your help!
NextEra's Duane Arnold solar projects DAS1 and DAS2 had their Planning and Zoning Commission meeting last night at Palo's Community Center. The Planning and Zoning Commission is made up of a 7 member volunteer commission of residents who live in unincorporated areas of Linn County.
The two projects proposed were approved by the commission 4 votes to 3, including the phase 2 project that includes a 2.75 acre lithium-ion battery station. Keep in mind our county does not have a defined ordinance or set of standards for batteries.
It is disappointing for the commission to recommend these projects for approval. Many of us do not believe the standards for approval have been met. Many of our communities residents spoke to oppose the project and shared their concerns. Our voices were dwarft by a larger crowd of non-profits, labor unions, and neighboring county leadership and economic alliances advocating for these projects. We NEED your support to stop the devastation of farmland and rural character of our communities.
Support can come in many forms. And it will take many forms of support to fight against this industrialization.

- Send emails to our county voicing your concerns.
- Attend county meetings, either solar or standard BOS meetings and share your concerns.
- Post a No Industrial Solar sign in your yard.

If we silence our concerns then the only voices that rise to the top are those who support these projects. They are telling our county leaders what they want to hear and not sharing anything that would pose a concern for their ability to get their project done. If you believe this is not good for our community, please choose to share your voice with our county's decision makers.
