LinkedIn: Correct the definition of the skill "Architecture"

The Issue

I have noticed some movement on this issue from LinkedIn, although they have never talked to me, or ever carried on a productive email dialogue with me:

Linked in has redirected from their url for the skill Architecture to a newly(?) created skill called *Architectures*    www.linkedin.com/skills/skill/Architecture

I am not sure I want to support Linked In's creation.  Architects should create our word, and OWN it, PROTECT it, NURTURE it, BRAND it and DEFEND it.  Maybe all Architects should go through the Brandery  (new company startup incubator in Cincinnati - mostly software related startups though)

Or ideally the I.T. profession should create a new word.  We had Architecture first, they should return it to us, and find there own world.

I really think *architects* should find a word that *we* can get a federal trademark for.

Still this petition has had a half year battle, and it is nice to see some action.  Please promote this to your friends.  We need a multitude of dozens of signers to show we care.

The LinkedIn skill definition of Architecture URL still works as of 10:40 pm EST July 12, 2013.  The only thing different is the navigation to it is less clear, you used to be able to get to it from a link on the headers under >Interests >Skills

Architecture

-2% y/y

Primary Industry: Architecture & Planning

The software architecture of a system is the set of structures needed to reason about the system, which comprise software elements, relations among them, and properties of both. The term also refers to documentation of a system's "software architecture." Documenting software architecture facilitates communication between stakeholders, documents early decisions about high-level design, and allows reuse of design components and patterns between projects.

Have a great year!  I will be talking to you next year to continue to try and get this fixed!

Update on May 2, 2013:  Still not fixed.  There is a 'feature' I just noticed:  Type 'arch' in the search box on the upper left of any LinkedIn page. A drop down list opens with Skills on the bottom.  Great!  Now the world has quicker access to the WRONG definition of 'Architecture' in the industry of 'Architecture and Planning"

Update on March 25, 2013, 3:47 ET - As of today this is STILL not fixed.  I have tried, they closed 2 support tickets without fixing it and I have written a third.  There is NO support phone number for Linked In.  The corporate number 650-687-3600 has an automated attendant, if you do not have an extension number, you can dial 1 for support, and it says contact through their web site, dial 2 if you are news media, so I did that and it said use 650-687-3555 for support, it sends you to the same automated attendent message.   if you dial 2 for news media, it records your message as text and will not put you through to a human voice.   1,000 employees and no one to answer the phone.   Does anyone have an extension number for one of those 1,000 people?

Architects are licensed by states to practice Architecture, which is the design of buildings. LinkedIn uses the wikipedia definition for Software Architecture, and calls it in the area of 'Architecture and Planning'. Software architecture is in the field of information technology and computers and has nothing to do with designing buildings. This is damaging licensed architects, and confusing the public.
