Level The Playing Field For Iowa Distilleries

Level The Playing Field For Iowa Distilleries
The Issue
Iowa Distilleries are asking the Legislature to level the playing field with breweries and wineries. We're not asking for special treatment, we're asking for equal treatment.
HF2416 does three things:
- Increases daily sales limit for distilleries from 2 bottles per person to a 12 bottle case. (Breweries and wineries currently have no sales limits.)
- Increases production limit from 50,000 gallons to 100,000 gallons per year. That's less than the big distilleries make in a day. (Breweries and wineries currently have no production limits.)
- Allows distilleries to sell the products they make on site by the glass. All spirits sold by the glass would be purchased through the same system all other Iowa bars and restaurants use. (Breweries and wineries can sell by the glass, bottle, can, growler or keg.)
The bill is good for Iowa because:
- Increased tax revenue for Iowa.
- Brings Iowa code in line with all surrounding states who have already made these changes.
- Creates jobs and tourism as it supports small businesses.
The bill has widespread bipartisan support in the House and Senate. The only opposition to the bill is from Big Beer. (Anheuser Busch and the Iowa Wholesale Beer Distributors Association) Read more about the fight for a level playing field at www.iowadistillery.com
