REDUCE PT/OT SUMMER COURSE COST

REDUCE PT/OT SUMMER COURSE COST

The Issue

It has come to the attention of the Physical therapy and Occupational therapy class of 2021 that our summer course, Functional Human Anatomy, is no longer being offered at the previously promised cost of $300 per credit. We have received no notice of this change from the president of the college, the dean of the Health Science and Human Performance School, or Student Financial Services. The college's commitment to academic excellence, accessibility, and inclusion, is not being reflected in this cost change. The junior class of both majors were aware we were to be taking this course prior to the change to remote learning, and we are grateful for our professors effort and patience as we learned online. However, it is unacceptable we have to pay full price for a class that is essentially taught through a computer screen. We are unable to have a hands on learning experience and engagement in a difficult course, and as a result of that, we are more stressed, anxious, and frustrated. We believe that we are not getting the full experience of the class compared to if it was in person, and hence, the class should not cost the full price. Please reconsider this change as it is a time of financial hardship and stress. There was no indication in the email received May 7 from President Collado that Occupational and Physical therapy summer courses are exempt from this discount.
