Make Meadow lane safer.

Make Meadow lane safer.
The Issue
Since the recent school bus accident on Meadow Lane, North Hykeham the local residents wish to make the lane safer for everyone. We regularly see the road closed due to a high number of accidents. In July this year there was tragically a fatality where a young family man lost his life. When we heard about the accident last week involving 60 school children we were extremely worried and saddened. Many of us have been contacting the council for years to ask for more safety measures to be put in place.
The 60mph stretch of road is less than half a mile long, it is narrow with a very sharp corner and ditches close to each side. Drivers are routinely speeding, tailgating and overtaking. On such a short stretch of road they are not going to get there any faster and I believe they are unaware of the danger on this road. Reducing the speed limit on meadow lane and adding traffic calming measures such as a speed camera or other measures will prevent so many more accidents and may save lives.
Living there we also witness a lot of drivers entering North Hykeham on the boundary at dangerous speeds of up to 70mph in a 30mph zone. We have lost many pets to this and we are concerned about the school children crossing on the way too and from school. We regularly see cars and lorries flying around the corner at high speeds with children crossing and cycling to school on the other side of the corner. Sections of the footpath are extremely thin in parts too and a lorry can pass you just inches away. This is a built up area with a 30mph speed limit. There is no pedestrian or zebra crossing for the children to use and there are no signs warning about children crossing. Please help us make Meadow Lane safer for everyone and sign our petition. If you have friends and family that also want to help us make the road safer please ask them to sign too, the more signatures we have the more likely we can make the road safer. Many thanks.
