This call for your resignation is due to (a) you misleading us, your electorate, regarding the timing of the decision making process, (b) the way in which you then mishandled the consultation regarding the Library service and (c) due to the amount of electorate’s money you wasted on a consultation where the decision had already been made by the Executive Committee.
Those who are given the power to make decisions locally on behalf of those that voted them in should be responsible in terms of the way in which they use that power. They should not mislead or abuse the powers granted merely to support their party politics. Those who vote them in should remain the most important factor. Those on the Executive Committee of the Lincolnshire County Council have been proven via a Judicial Review to have misled their electorate and continue to deny this.
Campaigners wrote time after time to the Council Leader and Executive informing them that the consultation was not being handled correctly. This information was also pointed out to them via the consultation documents themselves, online and via the media and even though they also read the solicitors’ statements supporting this point of view, before the Judicial Review, they, the Executive and members of the ruling body of the Lincolnshire County Council, both Tory and Liberal Democrat, continued to rebuff any criticism of the consultation process. They had a firmly closed mind to the views of the Lincolnshire electorate regarding the proposals and this view was supported by the Judge during the Review.
Not only have the Executive Committee of the Lincolnshire County Council, misled the public but they have also cost them a great deal of public monies, with both a fatally flawed Consultation process and the failed defence of their position. For this reason they should hold themselves responsible and do the right thing, resign.
