To the Lincoln University Board of Trustees:

The Alumni and Students of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania respectfully demand that Dr. Brenda Allen’s contract be renewed. Dr. Allen’s outstanding record as the President of Lincoln University has distinguished her as the logical choice to lead the University into the future. The University has made significant strides in fostering an atmosphere of family, and dedication to improving the academic excellence in its curriculum. Dr Allen’s record shows that Lincoln University has progressed in many different aspects of the college educational system in her first three years as its President.

Dr. Allen brings her expertise from several universities, including Brown University, WSSU, and Yale and has a vision to continue to lead Lincoln into a new realm.

Under Dr Allen’s leadership:

*Lincoln is now ranked in the top 10 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in the country.
*Lincoln is now ranked, for the first time, among the top 40 Northern Public institutions of the United States.
*The retention rate for first year students has risen from 68% to 71% and the second year student has grown from 57.8% to 65.2%.
*Four year graduation has grown from 46.8% to 47.1%. Lincoln Alumni giving has increased by 34% and the number of donors has almost doubled.
*Lincoln’s accreditation which was previously in danger, was reaffirmed in 2019 with commendations and the self study documents were used as a training guide.
*Revamped the off-campus travel and lodging to ensure students’ safe passage
*Secured $500,000 preservation grant for Amos, Nkrumah, Vail and Rendall Halls rather than destroy them.
*Refurbished Dickey Hall which had been closed for 6 years.

*Moved the university from 27 to 19 in the US News Rankings
*Has rallied our university to be 7th in alumni giving

Some of this movement may seem small but the University is moving in the right direction. With these and many other accomplishments we the Lincoln community demand that Dr. Allen’s contract is renewed immediately to protect the progress of our community.

Lincoln has gone through many different presidents in the last 20 years that have stripped us of some of our cherished traditions. The revolving door is not conducive to establishing a consistent  structure for Lincolnites, both current and former  students. It is vital that a University President be given the appropriate time to make sure their vision is being implemented so that the school can achieve its academic goals. This is not the time to gamble with the progress that has already been achieved through Dr. Allen’s hard work. In addition, the pandemic has done a lot of damage to our current students’ college experience. It is imperative to have Dr. Allen at the helm of leadership in order to keep our students positive about the future of their education and to keep the confidence of the students, faculty and Alumni during this trying time.

It is common sense to keep our President, Dr. Brenda A. Allen, ‘81, a Lincolnite, and celebrated pedagogue as our current President. Therefore, we, the undersigned, respectfully demand  that Dr Allen’s contract be renewed immediately so that she can continue to lead the University with excellence into the future.

Respectfully Submitted,

The Lincoln University Community
