The Issue

Remember the Halloween magic of yesteryears? The excitement of dressing up in our favorite costumes and venturing into the night with friends, knocking on doors, and collecting candy was an unparalleled experience. Unfortunately, over the years, the tradition of going door-to-door for trick-or-treating has significantly declined due to the rise of 'trunk or treat' events.

'Trunk or treat' was initially designed as a safe and efficient alternative for Halloween, and while its intentions are commendable, its widespread prevalence has altered the essence of Halloween. Many traditional homes are now left with dim porches, as families gather in parking lots instead of their neighborhoods. This shift has led to a decline in community interaction, and it feels as though the Halloween spirit is waning.

The essence of Halloween is the sense of community and excitement it brings. Houses adorned with jack-o'-lanterns, children in costumes eagerly ringing doorbells, and neighbors coming together to celebrate was a once vibrant part of our neighborhoods. But as 'trunk or treat' events increase, fewer houses participate in traditional trick-or-treating, and neighborhoods feel less festive.

A solution to revive the Halloween spirit is to limit 'trunk or treat' events to one or two per city. This limitation would still offer the benefits of a safe, controlled environment for those who prefer it, while encouraging a return to traditional neighborhood trick-or-treating. Not only would this help instill a sense of community, but it would also motivate homeowners to decorate and engage with their neighborhoods once more.

By signing this petition, you can support a movement to bring back the communal magic of Halloween. Let's restore the spirit of community and togetherness that makes this holiday so special. Encourage cities to limit 'trunk or treat' events to foster a more vibrant, festive, and united neighborhood celebration.
