Limit the Use of Laptops for Instruction in Middle Schools

Limit the Use of Laptops for Instruction in Middle Schools
The Issue
I'm a concerned parent witnessing the negative impacts of excessive laptop use in school, especially for my daughter who is suffering from headaches as a direct result. Technology, while beneficial, should be a supplemental tool, not a necessity in Middle schools.
Children, at this tender age, should ideally be using traditional methods of studying, like paper and pencil to complete assignments and homework, not staring at screens all day. When extensive computer use replaces practical, hands-on learning methods, it doesn't just take a physical toll but also hampers cognitive development.
Recent studies suggest that excessive screen time can lead to eye strain, headaches, and other physical discomforts (American Optometric Association) while also impacting sleep quality and academic performance (Child Development Journal, 2019). Therefore, it seems detrimental to use laptops as the primary mode of instruction in our schools.
A balanced approach to technology use in the classroom would promote the practicality of traditional studying while also responsibly introducing students to the digital world. Let's create a healthier learning environment for our children. Sign the petition to call for limiting the use of laptops as the primary mode of instruction in our Middle schools.
