Limit the Monthly Rent of Three-Bedroom Houses to at most 1500$

Limit the Monthly Rent of Three-Bedroom Houses to at most 1500$
The Issue
My family and I earn less than $25,000 a year, a substantial portion of which directly goes to cover our rent. The struggle is real; we are literally living from hand to mouth with no budget left for groceries. In 2015, we once lived comfortably in a six-bedroom house for which we paid $900 per month. Today, the situation has reversed brutally, prompting us to pay almost triple for a far less spacious three-bedroom house. This distressing change in living conditions is unsustainable and morally unacceptable.
The story is not unique to us but reflects a broad trend of skyrocketing rental costs across the country. According to the Census Bureau, average rental costs have been rising each year, with less affordable housing options for lower-income families. Median gross rent in the United States was $1,023 in 2019, a striking increase from a decade ago.
We demand an immediate intervention to harmonize the rental market, through a policy that limits the monthly rent of three-bedroom houses to $2,000, a figure that allows low-income families to have a humane living condition. We call for the implementation of this policy at the earliest possible time, as every month delayed plunges more families into unnecessary hardship.
Stand with us in advocating for affordable housing for all. Your signature on this petition is a step toward economic justice and upholding the dignity of all families. Please sign and support our cause.
