Limit Student Admissions at San Diego State University

The Issue

As a current student of San Diego State University (SDSU), I've witnessed firsthand how our college admits more students than it can effectively manage. The massive incoming classes significantly strain resources, resulting in challenges with housing, class registration, and reduced access to services such as the International Student Center and Passport Office.

In recent years, the total enrolment of SDSU has grown rapidly, leading to an over-saturation of the student population. For instance, in fall 2020, more than 35,303 students were enrolled at SDSU, a stark increase from the past decade. Such influx, while seeming like a testament to the university's popularity, has led to complications and difficulties for us, the students.

This petition aims to curb the adoption of a blind growth philosophy, and instead focus on the quality of the education and resources provided to each student. We believe that limiting the admission capacity will not only ease the drastic strain on the resources but also lead to a more fulfilling educational experience for everyone at SDSU.

We need to ensure that every individual who is part of SDSU gets the quality education that they have signed up for, undiluted by the strain of over-admission. We urge the administrators to consider the implications of their admission policies and make changes that will benefit the current and future students.

Help us make a difference by signing this petition. Let’s make our university an institution that prioritizes student welfare and education quality over mere numbers.
