If you don't plan to speak there are other ways to contribute. It makes a difference to attend the meeting to listen to discussions or email the board (101-boe@bps101.net) and ask them to block Youtube on student devices.
We met with Tom Kim on Monday and are still asking for the same things:
-Block Youtube on all student devices.
-No Chromebook use as a reward, during lunch/recess or during specials. Public Act 102-0357
-Screen-time cap according to grade level. Article about LAUSD time limits.
-Middle and high school students should follow a bell-to-bell cell phone policy in which personal devices are stored in designated classroom cubbies, lockers, or other secure storage at the start of each class period and remain inaccessible until the end of class. Exceptions should be limited to documented medical needs, individualized education plans (IEPs), 504 accommodations, or emergencies as determined by school staff. Legislation linked here.
-Parent/guardian opt out of bringing Chromebooks home.
The district has no plans to implement any of the above changes in the immediate future. Join us by continuing to ask the school board and the district administration to make technology use changes for our children.
