Limit Fireworks Use to a Specific Week in November

The Issue

As a cat owner, I have witnessed firsthand the distress and fear that fireworks can cause to animals. My cats get extremely scared during the fireworks season, which is not limited to just one night but extends throughout November due to individuals setting off fireworks on different days. This is not an isolated issue; countless pet owners share similar experiences.

According to the RSPCA, 45% of dogs in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks. It's not just domestic pets either - wildlife can also be severely affected. The loud noises and bright flashes caused by fireworks can lead to stress and anxiety among animals, affecting their natural behavior and potentially leading to injury or death.

I am calling for legislation that restricts the use of private fireworks displays to a specific week around Bonfire Night. This would provide pet owners with certainty about when they need extra measures in place for their pets' comfort and safety while still allowing people who enjoy these displays an opportunity for celebration.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for animal welfare by limiting unnecessary stress caused by prolonged exposure to unpredictable firework displays throughout November. Please sign this petition today; let's give our pets some peace during this festive period.

Whilst there is a specific law that says you can set then off not before 6pm and not after 11pm in your own back garden or property there is no law that gives an actual timeframe for the dates!
