Limit Excessive Vehicle Exhaust Noise in Denton County

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Denton County, respectfully petition our local government to adopt and enforce a maximum vehicle exhaust noise limit of 95 decibels.

In recent years, many of us have experienced an increase in excessive and unnecessary vehicle noise due to modified or deleted exhaust systems on cars and motorcycles. These modifications are often made intentionally to increase the volume and aggression of the vehicle’s sound, disrupting the peace of our neighborhoods at all hours of the day and night.

This petition is not aimed at responsible drivers or standard vehicles but specifically targets those who modify their exhaust systems in ways that violate the spirit of safe and respectful community driving.

We are requesting:

  1. The establishment and enforcement of a 95-decibel limit for vehicle exhaust noise.
  2. Prohibition of aftermarket modifications that increase vehicle noise beyond legal limits.
  3. Routine noise enforcement efforts through decibel meters, especially in residential areas and noise-sensitive zones.
  4. Fines or penalties for violators, including mandatory compliance checks for repeat offenders.

Excessive vehicle noise:

  • Disrupts sleep and reduces quality of life for residents.
  • Negatively impacts young children, the elderly, pets, and individuals with sensory sensitivities.
  • Diminishes the peaceful character of our neighborhoods.
  • Can contribute to increased stress and long-term health consequences.

We believe that everyone has the right to enjoy a peaceful environment and that reasonable regulations are essential to maintaining that right.

We urge our elected officials to act swiftly and protect the well-being of our community by adopting these measures.

Thank you for your attention and commitment to a safer, quieter, and healthier Denton County.
