Malaysia's Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad insists we need a third national car to make Malaysia a nation of producers and not just consumers.
Tun, we do not need another car.
We need leaders with more than lofty goals - we need leaders with imagination, who do not live in the past.
Despite two national cars, Malaysia has still not become a respected global car manufacturer. We must look elsewhere instead of continuing to beat a dead, rotting horse.
We have the poor who need assistance to escape the poverty trap.
We have minds needing money for research.
We have entrepreneurs needing assistance.
We are a nation with too many cars, and most do not own the cars they drive - the banks do.
We are still trapped with stagnant wages that have not budged in decades, that do not take into account inflation and rising living costs.
We need innovation, opportunity, fresh ideas and new, brave dreams. We need hope, not cars.
Tun, we beg you to give up this mad dream of yet another waste of money and resources and instead look to a future where Malaysians do not need cars.
