Lights for the Grass Valley Skate Park - a safe place for our youth to recreate!

The Issue

Grass Valley has a thriving skate scene, and many of our community's youth spend countless hours at the skate park learning new skills, exercising, and making friends both of their own age group and much older and younger. Our skatepark is a community gathering space, and we look forward with much gratitude to its rebuild, made possible by the City of Grass Valley and the Cannabis Tax Grant.

However, the new skate park as of yet does not include lights. Having lights at our city recreation facilities is an absolute must these days so we can recreate safely later in the day to beat the heat, and after dark in the winter months. Lights will make our new world-class skate park a safe and welcoming environment that parents will feel comfortable letting their kids use later in the day.

Nevada County Skate advocates for the addition of lighting to the new Grass Valley Skatepark in a format that supports safety for our skaters and works best for the community at large. We want to work with city to determine a lighting schedule that is energy-efficient and would have designated hours that are seasonally appropriate.

Please sign this petition to let our city know that its constituents support lights for the Grass Valley, that they support our youth and safe skating!

Construction of the new park starts this month, April, and will hopefully be finished by winter. We'd love to see lighting be approved and included so that our eager community can use our new destination skate park to its fullest capacity in its first winter.
