Why this petition matters

Started by John Anderson

There has been an increase in crime in the Oak Lawn area lately. Several have been attacked, buildings have been vandalized, someone was found dead. There is a responsibility for local business owners and the city to take measures to increase the safety of the Oak Lawn district of Dallas.

We need a "Lights, Cameras, Action" approach:

Lights: Increase the nighttime street and sidewalk illumination on Cedar Springs Road and adjacent areas to deter crime.

Cameras: Increase the number of cameras facing areas in which crime could occur.

Action: Take immediate actions to decrease crime in the area. Invest in private security and increase police patrols. Post signs stating that the area is under surveillance. Increase visibility of security on surrounding streets off the strip.

Make Oak Lawn a hard place to commit crime.

We are calling specifically on the City of Dallas, Dallas Tavern Guild, and other stakeholders on the Cedar Springs strip and surrounding areas to take responsibility, leadership, and action as soon as possible and to publicly announce their plans for change in a community meeting where feedback and additional ideas can be shared.
