Lift the Summer Dog Ban on Swansea Bay Beach

The Issue

Our joyful day turned tragic in the blink of an eye. We had planned to enjoy a leisurely stroll on a dog-friendly beach in Swansea, near Verdies, but fate took a dark turn when our beloved puppy slipped out of his collar right next to the bustling main road. The crowded streets and chaotic traffic terrified him, and he darted away, only to be struck by a car. Our hearts stopped as we feared the worst.

He’s just a puppy, still learning and growing every day. His recall is usually reliable, but the influx of holidaymakers and oncoming vehicles scared him senseless. Luckily he survived without serious injuries, but this incident could have easily had a darker outcome.

No pet owner should have to endure the sheer panic and dread of seeing their furry friend in danger on a day that should have been filled with joy. It’s imperative to consider the safety and happiness of our community’s dogs by lifting the summer ban on dogs on Swansea Bay Beach by the Marina.

Allowing dogs on certain designated areas of the beach all year-round can provide a safe space for local dog owners and tourists alike, ensuring pets have a secure environment to play, exercise, and explore. Not only does this promote pet safety, but it also fosters responsible pet ownership and community spirit.

A sensible solution would be to designate specific times or zones on the beach for dogs, ensuring harmony between dog owners and other beachgoers. As Swansea continues to welcome visitors from all over, an inclusive approach will enhance the seaside experience for everyone without compromising safety or enjoyment.

By signing this petition, we appeal to the Swansea Council to reconsider the current ban, taking into account the experiences and needs of the community. Your support in lifting this ban can prevent future incidents and make Swansea Bay Beach a more accommodating environment for everyone.

Let's come together to transform our beloved beach into a safe haven for all our four-legged friends. Please, lend your voice and sign this petition today. Please lift the Ban on Swansea Bay Beach nearby the Marina!
