I love working in the Army. I was active duty for 6 years before I was medically discharged. In fact, I enjoyed my work so much I decided to stay and work as a civilian engineer at a military facility in Maryland. My husband and I are looking for temporary housing on the base, but given the Army-wide breed discrimination policy against “bully breeds,” I am being told my beloved dogs cannot come with us.

I have a pitbull mix, Adrianna, and a pitbull, Diesel. They are the sweetest dogs and neither has ever been aggressive. It seems unfair that merely due to their “bully breed,” they’re prohibited from living with me. Military families elect to give up so much, we should at least be allowed to keep our pets.

Previously, I lived off-base, which allowed me the flexibility to adopt Adrianna and Diesel. Both came into my life as puppies and have become a big part of my family. I fear I will have to give them up.  

Please join me in asking the Army Office of Installations, Energy and the Environment to eliminate breed discrimination on military bases.
