As a local business owner in Northfield, MN, I am deeply concerned about the impact of the glass ban in our county. This ban directly affects small businesses like ours - tobacco shops that sell pipes, bongs and other paraphernalia. With the recent legalization of recreational marijuana in Minnesota, this prohibition on glassware used for smoking has become even more detrimental.

Our shop is not just a business; it is and will continue to be an essential stop to many members of our community. The current restrictions are driving businesses out of town instead supporting our local economy.

Moreover, according to data from Colorado and Washington states where marijuana was legalized earlier (source: Marijuana Policy Project), there was an increase in sales of such paraphernalia following legalization. We believe that lifting this ban could similarly stimulate economic activity just a little closer to home.

Under the current glass ordinance, the sale of: glass pipes, bongs, chillums, one-hitters, dab rigs and accessories, and even herbal grinders are prohibited for establishments doing business in Rice county.
