Janice Smith started this petition to A&E Networks and

R. Kelly is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for songs such as "Bump N' Grind", "I Believe I Can Fly”, "Ignition (Remix)", "The World's Greatest”, and many other songs. R. Kelly is considered to be one of the most successful R&B artists of the last 25 years. He is also one of the best-selling music artists in the United States.

Lately, R. Kelly has been under major scrutiny due to recent “cult” allegations (R. Kelly denied the allegations) and an onslaught strategically created by the mass media to tarnish R. Kelly’s image and career. The movement called #MuteKelly followed R. Kelly in a number of cities to protest his shows and harass his fans outside who were attending the shows. What followed was a number of publications writing thinkpieces about R. Kelly and allegations. However, R. Kelly has denied all allegations. Kelly hasn’t been investigated or brought on any charges since the cult allegations were presented to the public.

However, this didn’t stop Lifetime and A&E Networks from creating a three part series called “Surviving R. Kelly” to further defame R. Kelly of his character by pushing the agenda of “mute R. Kelly” to the public. I find this very troubling. Especially, considering R. Kelly has denied the allegations and an investigation hasn’t taken place.

Furthermore, I’ve learned that the accusers taking part have a troubled past which includes fraud and harassment. Also conflicting statements were made that don’t mirror what’s being said about R. Kelly now. I don’t think Lifetime took this into consideration.

Another thing, the producer Dream Hampton accused R. Kelly of a gun threat with NO PROOF. How is this fair? Why should the public trust this documentary when one of the producers is displaying this type of behavior?

This is unfair and we demand that Lifetime Entertainment Services and A&E Networks pull this documentary off the air and issue an apology to R. Kelly and all of his fans.

This slander needs to stop!
