As an active member of the Florida International University (FIU) alumni community, I am deeply concerned about the recent policy that restricts access to FIU email accounts for all alumni, even the active users. This petition aims to request a change in this policy and advocate for lifetime access to FIU emails for all ACTIVE alumni (we may disable only inactive alumni accounts).

Personal Story:
During my time at FIU, my university email account played a crucial role in my academic and professional life. It served as a vital communication tool, allowing me to connect with professors, classmates, and potential employers. Even after graduation, I have continued using my FIU email address as it has become an integral part of my online PROFESSIONAL identity.

However, I was disheartened when I learned about the new policy that limits access to FIU emails only for a year after graduation. While I understand the concerns regarding inactive accounts posing security threats, it is UNFAIR and BIASED to penalize active users by depriving them of their valuable email accounts.

Relevant Facts:
1. Active Alumni Engagement: There is a significant number of alumni who actively use their university email addresses for various purposes such as networking opportunities and staying connected with fellow alumni.

2. Security Measures: Instead of completely revoking access without any prior notice or alternative solutions, implementing security measures such as periodic password updates or two-factor authentication can effectively address potential security threats.

3. Online Identity Preservation: Many professionals rely on their university email addresses even after graduation due to its association with academic achievements and networking opportunities within specific industries.

4. Promoting Lifelong Learning Opportunities: By providing lifetime access to FIU emails for active alumni, the university encourages ongoing engagement and facilitates access to valuable resources, including career services, alumni events, and educational opportunities.
