Deidre Edens started this petition to Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and

In an attempt to preserve the planet by immensely reducing the amount of plastic that resides on our planet, I would like to propose that retail stores no longer provide customers with plastic bags, but rather, reusable bags that are environmentally friendly. It is imperative that we begin prioritizing the environment in order to ensure the world we live in.

Science shows that between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean each year. It also shows that of the 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic that has been produced, 6.3 billion metric tons has become plastic waste and only nine percent of that has been recycled. The rest accumulates in landfills and in the environment, negatively affecting animals in nature and ultimately us as well. It is essential that we reduce our usage of plastic in order to guarantee the life of our planet

Pledge to stand with me as we call on Texas Legislators to assist us with the ongoing problem of pollution by banning the use of plastic bags in retail stores.
