Boston Council - Please SAY NO To The Alcohol Application At 100 Carlton Road, Boston
The Issue
An application has been put forward to grant an alcohol license at 100 Carlton Road, Boston. (Previously Bruce Hair Centre).
The application states that the new owner of the Grocery Shop would like permission to sell alcohol between the hours of 5:00am - 11:30pm.
Local residents and existing business owners do not want another outlet for alcohol sales and feel it will be detrimental to the area.
Within a half mile vicinity, there are already 8 off licenses that cater to the needs of the immediate population, and are all open within the hours proposed by the new application.
Business Distance From Proposed Site
Berrys Newsagents 50 Meters
European Foods 100 Meters
CO-OP 100 Meters
Baltic Foods 0.2 Miles
Fenside Premier 0.3 Miles
ASDA 0.3 Miles
Aldi 0.4 Miles
Sleaford Rd Petrol Station 0.4 Miles
Paula Wood, Chief Superintendent of Boston Police, has already highlighted that alcohol is playing a major part in the increased violent crime within the town, and the area of Carlton Road has seen it's fair share of this violence in recent times. In a recent statement she said;
"I am particularly worried about the part that abuse of alcohol has played in many of the incidents." - Chief Supt Paula Woods
Also with the introduction of the town centre Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), more drinkers have been pushed into the area as they try to escape the areas covered by the PSPO.

The local residents have seen their neighbourhood taken away from them with the removal of seating areas and public gardens that had become problem areas related with anti social drinking.
Shoppers to the area are starting to find other places to shop as they are fed up with being harassed by drunken individuals standing on the streets, begging them for money or asking them to buy them cans of beer.
Local business owners fight a daily battle of clearing up beer cans, human excrement, broken glass and vomit, as their premises are used as drinking areas when closed for business.
The residents and business owners within the immediate area are fighting back and saying enough is enough.
Allowing another premises to have an alcohol license in this area, will not only be detrimental to the area, but will further increase the potential for more of the anti social behaviour that already exists.
BOSTON BOROUGH COUNCIL - WE DO NOT WANT OR NEED ANY MORE ALCOHOL SELLING PREMISES ON OUR DOORSTEP. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE.
