For decades Jersey City Residents have enjoyed visiting Liberty State Park. And the wetlands of Caven Point have been a paradise for animals and nature lovers alike. It is home to hundreds of species of birds, seals, beavers and so much more. Now the Liberty National Golf Club (of which Donald Trump is a member) is threatening Caven Point. A one paragraph clause was slipped into a budget cut bill, allowing private buying of public lands. Liberty National wants to destroy 22 acres of valuable wetlands to add three holes to their golf course, claiming it will benefit the city and give kids a chance at golf. In reality, this will benefit no one but the club. There are only 250 members, and memberships cost $450,000. Liberty National helps no one except the one percent who are wealthy enough to afford this. Destroying the wetlands will mean catastrophic consequences for the wildlife living there. Many species of migratory birds have found refuge at Caven Point. The loss of this land means countless birds will die. Not only will this precious habitat be destroyed, but Liberty National will use tons of harmful pesticides and chemicals on their course, which could pollute the Hudson River. Not to mention how wrong it is to slip a privatization amendment that benefits the wealthy elite into a budget bill while millions of Americans are applying for unemployment. Please help us stop Liberty National from developing this beautiful land.
