In questo periodo nel quale sono presa nella lotta per la liberazione di Assange, ripenso spesso ad una persona che nel 1981 morì nel carcere di Belfast: si chiamava Robert Gerard Sands, per tutti Bobby Sands. A causa delle condizioni disumane dei detenuti nelle prigioni reali, iniziò uno sciopero della fame, durante il quale venne anche eletto deputato in Parlamento. Purtroppo morì dopo 66 giorni. Ero giovane allora, adolescente di 13 anni e la vicenda mi colpì molto. Ma a tutt'oggi fa male vedere come, la sua morte sia stata maledettamente inutile. Mr Donald Trump, Mr Boris Johnson, io e le persone che stanno firmando questa petizione (come molte altre nel mondo), non abbiamo paura di chi dice la verità, nè tantomeno di chi la cerca, con qualsiasi modo. Ne avremmo più di qualcuno che la nasconde. Perché questo modo di vivere crea un buco nero nella lunga storia dell'umanità. Non potrà mai esserci pace in questo mondo, se non conserviamo la memoria storica, che si basa su fatti reali. Per questo consideriamo Julian Paul Assange come un uomo di pace, che ha compiuto un gesto di pace. Crediamo che questo gesto meriti la libertà, non la morte lenta alla quale quest'uomo sta andando incontro. Grazie per averci ascoltato.

In this period in which I am caught in the struggle for the liberation of Assange, I often think of a person who died in Belfast prison in 1981: his name was Robert Gerard Sands, for all Bobby Sands. Due to the inhuman conditions of the detainees in the royal prisons, a hunger strike began, during which he was also elected Member of Parliament. Unfortunately he died after 66 days. There can never be peace in this world if we do not keep the historical memory, which is based on real facts. This is why we consider Julian Paul Assange as a man of peace, who has made a gesture of peace. We believe this gesture deserves the freedom, not the slow death this man is going through.
