Vi scriviamo per chiedere la scarcerazione del Dott. Hussam Abu Safiya per gravi violazioni dei diritti umani e con lui del personale medico attualmente incarcerato ingiustamente.

Il Dott. Abu Safiya è pediatra ed era direttore dell'ospedale Kamal Adwan. Dallo scoppio della guerra, a causa dei frequenti bombardamenti, Abu Safiya e la sua famiglia si sono trasferiti nell'ospedale in modo permanente. Nonostante la guerra, Abu Safiya è riuscito ad aumentare la capacità dell'ospedale da 120 a 200 posti letto. Assieme alla sua famiglia, ha rifiutato l'offerta di lasciare l'ospedale prima che fosse evacuato. Il 27 dicembre 2024, le I D F hanno effettuato un'evacuazione forzata del personale e dei pazienti e Abu Safiya è stato arrestato. Durante un incontro con la sua avvocata, Abu Safiya ha raccontato di essere stato sottoposto a varie forme di tortura e abusi. Soffre di pressione arteriosa, aritmia cardiaca e problemi di vista e ha perso circa 40 chili, si è fratturato quattro costole durante gli interrogatori, senza ricevere cure mediche adeguate. Nel marzo 2026, nuovi rapporti di "gravi torture" hanno indotto vari esperti delle Nazioni Unite a richiederne il rilascio immediato. Nell'aprile 2026 un tribunale ha esteso a tempo indefinito la sua detenzione senza presentare accuse.
Si chiede la liberazione del dott. Abu Safiya e del personale sanitario ingiustamente incarcerato.
We are writing to call for the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya—due to serious human rights violations—as well as the medical staff currently unjustly detained alongside him.
Violation of the following articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
Art. 3 Right to life
Art. 5 No torture
Art. 8 All your rights are protected by law
Art. 9 No unfair detention
Art. 30: No one can take away your rights
Dr. Abu Safiya is a pediatrician and was the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital. Since the outbreak of the war, due to frequent bombardment, Abu Safiya and his family have been living permanently at the hospital. Despite the war, Abu Safiya managed to increase the hospital's capacity from 120 to 200 beds. Together with his family, he refused an offer to leave the hospital before it was evacuated. On December 27, 2024, the IDF forcibly evacuated staff and patients, and Abu Safiya was arrested. During a meeting with his lawyer, Abu Safiya recounted being subjected to various forms of torture and abuse. He suffers from high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia, and vision problems; he has lost approximately 40 kilograms and sustained four fractured ribs during interrogations, without receiving adequate medical care. In March 2026, new reports of "severe torture" prompted various United Nations experts to call for his immediate release. In April 2026, a court extended his detention indefinitely without bringing charges.
We call for the release of Dr. Abu Safiya and the unjustly imprisoned medical staff.
