Dear friends of Sea-Eye,
Hawa (name changed) is 21 years old and three months pregnant when she is rescued by the SEA-EYE 4. Her story shows the struggles of women* on the run and highlights the need to raise our voices with all FLINTA* people worldwide - not just today, on Feminist Day of Struggle!
When Hawa is rescued on the first mission of SEA-EYE 4 in 2021, journalist Sara Cincurova is also on board. Sara stays in touch with Hawa and follows her journey from the violence of Libya to the brutality of Europe. It is a story of survival.
Trigger warning: This text deals with sexual and sexualised violence and experiences of discrimination.
One thing is indisputable: patriarchal violence is cause for flight, it is experienced during flight and it continues after flight. Europe's policy of isolation is an essential part of this patriarchal system of violence, which robs women* of their integrity, safety and rights. And leaves them to drown in the Mediterranean.
Feminist solidarity knows no boundaries! We stand with our sisters* who seek protection and denounce the various forms of discrimination they face. FLINTA* people everywhere deserve respect, protection and full recognition of their rights!
Yours in solidarity,
Jutta Wieding - Director Sea-Eye e. V.
Help us save lives in the Mediterranean!
Our all-weather lifeboat SEA-EYE 5 is operating on the deadliest escape route in the world. On board, emergency doctors from German Doctors provide medical care to pregnant women. Thanks to its powerful engines, the ship can quickly bring the patients to safety.
