Our son Liam was born at 26 weeks and spent three long months in the NICU. A week before he was discharged, he was put on a 27cal Similac Neosure formula. We made countless calls, day and night about Liam being constipated due to the formula. Despite our concerns about his constipation, we were reassured that this was normal. 

However, within a week, Liam developed Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC), leading to the death of 90% of his intestines, and made them do a life saving surgery of removing all the dead, in hopes it wouldn’t kill the remaining 20cm. 

During developing NEC, Liam went through so many other issues. He was sepsis, lethargic, had so much lack of oxygen he was put on a ventilator for a month. His kidneys shutdown and wasn’t producing urine so was put on 24/7 continuous dialysis for over a month. 

NEC is so deadly. These preemies are already so fragile. 

The Development of NEC has reduced survival by less than 10%.

Sadly, our story is not unique. There are countless claims against formulas like Similac for causing NEC in premature babies - yet these products continue to be sold without adequate warnings or monitoring protocols. NEC affects up to 12% of premature infants and has a mortality rate as high as 30%. The link between fortified formulas and NEC is well-documented in medical literature (Pediatrics Journal).

We cannot stand by while more innocent lives are put at risk by harmful baby formulas. We call on health authorities to ban the sale of these dangerous products until further research can be conducted and safety measures implemented.
