The Issue

A few months ago, Tenth Presbyterian sued former member Phil Snyder.

Why did the church do that? It did so because Phil raised concerns he had about possible sexual harassment and other misconduct involving the church.

But rather than appreciating Phil’s efforts to make the church a safe place for all, Tenth Presbyterian threw Phil out. When Phil objected and began protesting outside the church, church officials tried to get a protective order, claiming that Phil was threatening them and that he fit the profile of a mass shooter.

Fortunately, Phil had been wearing a body cam. The film footage revealed that Phil was anything but threatening—in fact, it appears that the church LIED ABOUT PHIL.

Today, the church is back in court, suing Phil. And it very much looks like Tenth Presbyterian is trying to bully/bankrupt Phil into silence.

What does Tenth Presbyterian have to hide? And in a day and age of #churchtoo and #metoo, why doesn’t Tenth Presbyterian and its pastor, Liam Goligher, welcome those who want to make the church safe? Is it Christian to try to sue someone into silence?

Church should be a safe place for all persons, and any church that sues a whistleblower is not a church that I would support.

Please join me in telling Tenth Presbyterian to drop its lawsuit, apologize to Phil, and investigate this situation. Behavior like this is exactly the reason so many people are turning their backs on organized religion.
