Resolution to Allow Leashed Dogs at Heckscher Park is Passed by The Huntington Town Board!

Thanks to you and the 2,500+ petition signers, the Huntington Town Board yesterday approved Councilwoman Joan Cergol’s resolution to allow leashed dogs at Huntington Heckscher Park!  Thank you, Councilwoman Cergol! Special thanks to Supervisor Lupinacci, and Huntington Town Board Councilmen Cuthbertson, Smyth, and Cook. And thanks to Doug Geed, News 12 for your coverage alerting the public to the issue; and Pam Robinson, HuntingtonNow.com; Michael DeSantis, Huntington Patch.com; Donna Deedy, TBR Newsmedia; and The Huntingtonian -- Thank you!

The Heckscher Leashed Dog Pilot Program begins January 1, 2020 - March 31, 2020, and will be renewed if everyone follows the rules.

Rules for allowing leashed dogs at Huntington Heckscher Park:

·           Dogs must be under control by their owners and leashed at all times.

·           No dogs are allowed on the playground, picnic areas, and tennis courts. Dogs will be permitted on the sports field when they are not in play.

·           Dogs are permitted on the Harry Chapin Rainbow Stage when there are no events and during events, if well-behaved.

·           Dogs are permitted on the pathways, but must yield to all other pedestrians, with extra attention made for seniors and the disabled.

·           Owners must pick up after their dogs.

Thanks, let’s make this work for the dog owners and dogs of Huntington. More info coming soon.

Thanks!
