LISD's In-Person School Needs to Start Now
The Issue
LISD surveyed the parents of our district on whether we wanted in-person or remote learning. They told us we had a choice and had us designate which we thought was best for our families. Then Kevin Rogers overrode what the parents decided was best for their kids and forced those who had pick in-person school to do school remote for the first three weeks. We were all patient and went along with it as he promised our kids would still get the education they deserved.
It is now day two of school and, with the exception of our wonderful teachers doing the best they can, it has been an utter failure. The LISD technology department is not up to the task of maintaining their systems for the whole student body. Learning hub has crashed, bandwidth is not adequate, the LISD page is down as I write this.
Now, NONE of the parents are getting the education they chose for their children. Those who chose online learning are not getting a smooth running experience because of the addition of double the amount of children who were supposed to be using online resources. Those who chose in-person are not getting what they requested. Kids with special needs are not getting the quality of services they need. Parents with full-time jobs outside the home are having to call out of work. Home internet service is not up to the task of work-from-home and school-from-home of whole families.
We need to stop this insanity now. In-person school needs to start as early as possible, preferably by Monday August 24th. With those who chose in-person schooling off the schools technological resources, those who chose on-line will have a much smoother experience. Starting in-person school now gives ALL LISD families what they voted for.
