Petition Closed

We, residents of the Borough of Lewisham, are appalled that the Council is selling off good housing stock while 50 homeless families are in B&B,
350 are in hostels and a further 1000 families are in temporary housing.
We fully support the occupation of five council houses to stop their sell-off at auction at knock-down prices.
We call upon Lewisham Council to ensure that ALL the council’s housing is made available to rent by the 16,500 people on the housing waiting list.
Where refurbishment is necessary local people should be employed and training opportunities created for unemployed people to learn skills.

Stop Selling Our Homes

We, residents of the Borough of Lewisham, are appalled that the Council is selling off good housing stock while 50 homeless families are in B&B,
350 are in hostels and a further 1000 families are in temporary housing.
We fully support the occupation of five council houses to stop their sell-off at auction at knock-down prices.
We call upon Lewisham Council to ensure that ALL the council’s housing is made available to rent by the 16,500 people on the housing waiting list.
Where refurbishment is necessary local people should be employed and training opportunities created for unemployed people to learn skills.

On Wednesday 29th February we asked Susan Wise, Cabinet Member for Housing, if she would consider licensing the 5 houses to a social enterprise who would take on the task of refurbishing them. She replied that nothing was being ruled out but referred to our occupation as "illegal" which it is not.

On Friday 2nd March a family of two adults and three children moved into 7 Angus Street following the installation of a bathroom and redecoration by volunteers from Lewisham People Before Profit.

We have had donations of hobs, ovens, carpets, a hot water heater, an immersion element, hinges and a small amount of money. All these things have helped us make life in the occupied homes more bearable.

We could do with some money to continue to improve things. Please send a donation to Lewisham People Before Profit, 97 Armoury Road, SE8 4LB

Please only sign if you are a Lewisham resident.

Yours,
