St Mildred's Church Hall - Building starts at last!

It’s six years since you kindly supported our petition to Lewisham Council to grant planning permission for our plan to replace our crumbling 1960s church hall with a new building for church and community, fit for the 21st century. Thank you again! It’s been a rollercoaster ride since then. Your support didn’t completely convince the planning committee in 2019 but it may well have influenced the planning inspector who later granted permission on appeal.

Since then we’ve knocked down the old hall and refurbished and insulated the south facing roof of the church, ready to receive solar panels to help power the new building. We’ve also been raising money and finalising the plans, including upgrading the heating of the new hall from gas boilers to greener heat pumps and adding EV chargers for public use. We're pleased to announce that we signed a building contract at the end of November. Work started on some preparatory remedial work to the existing church building last week and the main work will start immediately after the Christmas holidays. We hope to be able to welcome you into our new building next Christmas, or very soon afterwards.

We’ve raised 90% of the £4m+ cost of the project, which is enough to allow us to start, but we still need the last 10% to enable us to complete and furnish the building. If you would like to help us at no cost to yourself, please sign up to easyfundraising which will give us a few pence every time you shop online. You can do that HERE.  If you are able to support us directly, you can donate to our Christmas “Buy-a-brick” campaign HERE

Thank you again for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you in our new building in due course!
