Letter To Executive Board

Letter To Executive Board
The Issue
On behalf of the signed members of this letter we are expressing our discontentment of an offer by this union.
We as licensed skilled trade members of this union feel we are not being treated fairly In regards bargaining for this contract. We as maintenance were an afterthought of this 8 page deal.
Our brothers spoke about pay for Coach Techs and provided wages from other transit companies and public fleets. Instead we were told that we can't bargain for aspecific group of people with specific skills.Yet Customer service agents (CSA) were represented to increase their wages from WG5-WG7.
Transportation has a lifetime agreement for divisional trainers $2/hour. As skilled tradespeople we must also look towards the future and to pass down our knowledge and experience down to new members through peer to peer training and job shadowing as apart of their apprenticeship we do not recieve any extra pay to this.
Transportation recieved a increase of $150 to their meal allowance while we did not recieve an increase to our tool allowance.
While transportation recieves a flat rate of $200 for dry cleaning we lost our dry cleaning vouchers which many never used due to not being issued ttc uniform which the contractor will refuse us from this service. We lost that, that amount could have been issued to us like transportation or added to our clothing voucher.
It's been over 3 years since we lost engine and transmission rebuild. The company is only going to find more ways to contract more and more out as E-27 does not protect maintenance from contracting out as per arbitrator Shime " for clarity TTC can contact out the work of the maintenance department pursuant to Article IV, Section 16 regardless of whether these positions are integral to the provision of transportation services to the public."
We know we are in a operator's union. We do not have the numbers to be equal to them. But we finally had enough of being swept under the rug. We expected our maintenance BMs to be transparent with us and bargain in good faith. Instead we were served with 8 pages and $0.50 while transportation got 16 pages.
Let’s not forget why unions were first created. The idea behind unions was to fight for working conditions, benefits, and to equal the playing field wage wise with cost of living. Executives causing possibly the biggest divide after the most unified we have ever been. Many have told you either take care of your skill trades or you’re not going to have any in this local. That wasn’t a threat that was a promise.
