Letter to DC Mayor

Letter to DC Mayor
The Issue
This is the letter we have formulated on behalf of Iranian-Americans in the DC Region, for our calls to action from the Honorable Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Dear Mayor Bowser,
We are reaching out to you on behalf of the Iranian community here in the DC region and in our home country of Iran to give voice to that which began a month ago. The spontaneous protests in reaction to the murder of Mahsa Amini – Iran’s Kurdish daughter – by the regime’s so-called “morality police” began with a rebellion and has now grown into a full-fledged revolution. A revolution that has united Iranians and a revolution that is unfolding across the entire country. As a part of this great revolution, we are here to bear its historic message: “Women, Life, Freedom!”
Today, Iran’s revolution is being fought by Iranians collectively, in the streets of cities all across the country, by women and men of all ages, for today and its future generations. This revolution is being fought against an atrocious and evil regime. A regime which does not even spare children from oppression and execution. A regime with a Supreme Leader that gained power through terrorism and has since taken the country hostage for his own survival. The Supreme Leader, Khamaenei, has used Iran as his shelter and shield for his terrorism and hostage taking, as well as his politics and policies.
Mayor Bowser, we as Iranian-Americans ask that you support this movement and revolution with the following actions:
In memory of Mahsa Amini, as the symbol of defiance we ask that you rename the related segment of 23rd St NW in DC to MAHSA AMINI St. under the Code of the District of Columbia. This specific segment of 23rd St is located between M St NW and N St NW.
To symbolize all those lost at the hands of this regime, light the Reflecting Pool located in front of the Lincoln Memorial, the color red.
To emphasize Washington DC’s stance of solidarity, light one of the monuments or memorials in the colors red, white, and green.
As the Mayor of our Nations Capital, we ask that you help us symbolize this historic movement in the heart of DC.
Sincerely,
DC 4 Iran
