Letter of No Confidence- Demand the Jeffco School Board Terminates Superintendent Dorland
The Issue
Letter of No Confidence in Tracy Dorland, Superintendent of Jeffco Public Schools:
To the Jeffco School Board of Education and the Broader Jeffco Community:
We, the undersigned organizations and individuals, write this letter to formally express our profound lack of confidence in the leadership of Superintendent Tracy Dorland of Jeffco Public Schools. Over the course of 4 years, Superintendent Dorland's actions, decisions, and leadership approach have undermined the integrity of our public education system and the trust of students, families, educators, and community stakeholders.
Our concerns include but are not limited to:
Policy Failures: Superintendent Dorland has failed to implement policies that keep our students, educators, and support staff safe. She has acted outside of her scope and direction from the school board without reprimand when lobbying for school funding and creating a safety resolution that protects all Jeffco students and families.
Lack of Transparency and Accountability: There has been a consistent failure to communicate openly with parents, educators, and the public, particularly regarding budget decisions, school closures and the sale of closed school buildings, as well as the troubling situation with the Chief of Schools in December 2024.
Disregard for Community Voice: Despite repeated outreach and concerns raised by families, teachers, and other stakeholders, Superintendent Dorland has consistently suppressed community input and excluded community voices, especially from struggling articulation areas and schools facing closure. She has attempted to control the narratives around difficult and sensitive subjects rather than invest in true engagement and collaboration with the Jeffco community.
Erosion of Trust and Morale: Under her leadership, we have seen a measurable decline in staff morale, fear of retaliation, increased teacher and principal attrition, a loss of nearly 10% in student enrollment, and growing public disillusionment with the district’s direction.
These failures are not isolated. They reflect a broader pattern of leadership that is unresponsive, ineffective, and inconsistent with the values of inclusive, high-quality public education. The role of Superintendent requires not just administrative competence, but moral clarity, collaboration, and a deep respect for the people being served. In order for Jeffco Public Schools to thrive, it requires a change in leadership.
Therefore, we collectively state:
We no longer have confidence in the ability of Superintendent Tracy Dorland to lead Jeffco Public Schools in a manner that is equitable, transparent, and accountable to the people of this district.
In light of these ongoing concerns, we call on Mary Parker, Paula Reed, Danielle Varda, Erin Kenworthy, and Michelle Applegate to immediately terminate Superintendent Tracy Dorland from her position. The district can no longer afford the continued erosion of trust and failure to address the needs of our students, educators, and community. We need a leader who prioritizes transparency, accountability, and the well-being of all stakeholders.
We urge the Jeffco Public School Board of Education to take swift and decisive action to bring new leadership that will work collaboratively with families, teachers, and students to restore confidence in our public education system and create an environment where all students can thrive.
We stand ready to work with district leadership, educators, families, and all stakeholders to ensure that our public schools live up to their promise.
