The Issue

I experienced firsthand the financial strain of a sudden medical bill when a routine checkup turned into a costly hospital stay. Although I had health insurance through my employer, I had to pay over $1000 out-of-pocket before my insurance kicked in. This is not an isolated case—many families across the nation face similar financial burdens due to healthcare expenses that their insurance plans don’t cover until a high deductible is met.

In 2025, statistics showed that 46% of insured employees were enrolled in a PPO, while 12% were in an HMO, and 9% participated in a POS plan. Unfortunately, most of these plans require copayments before meeting deductibles, which disqualifies them from funding a Health Savings Account (HSA). HSAs allow workers to set aside pre-tax money to cover medical expenses, but currently, two-thirds of workers with employer-sponsored health plans don’t have this crucial option.

The lack of access to HSAs for these workers is a significant issue that affects their financial security and health outcomes. Allowing everyone with employer-provided health coverage to fund an HSA would offer much-needed financial relief and provide a viable way for families to manage unexpected healthcare costs.

By signing this petition, we are urging policy-makers to address this gap in healthcare funding and permit all workers on employer health plans to fund HSAs. This change would bring equity to the workforce and reduce the financial burden of medical expenses on millions of American families.

Please join me in advocating for a fair and equitable healthcare system. Sign this petition to help workers gain access to financial tools that enable them to take control of their healthcare costs.
