TIFR staff may bid for Bhabha’s house
MUMBAI: Atomic energy researchers from the city are welcome to bid for Dr Homi Bhabha’s bungalow if they wish to save it, KN Santook, chairman of the National Centre of Performing Arts (NCPA), has said.
The bungalow, located at Malabar Hill, had been willed by the Bhabha family to NCPA, which plans to auction the building and the plot of land on which it stands.
The employees of the National Federation of Atomic Energy and Tata Institue of Fundamental Research (TIFR), however, are opposed to the auction as they want the building, ‘Mehrangir’, to be preserved as a memorial to Dr Bhabha.
“Dr Bhabha’s bungalow is like a power temple to us and it is disheartening to know that it is going under the hammer”, said Ram Dhuri, president of the TIFR staff association.
