WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The Kyneton Women's Football Club – the Wedge-Tailed Eagles – is a passionate, hardworking and dedicated group of 30+ players, coaches, volunteers and members seeking your support to help us play in the RDFNL Senior Women's Competition for the 2025 season.
Our team was playing as the senior women’s team under the Kyneton Football Netball Club, the Kyneton Tigers, for 10 years. As part of the Kyneton FNC, we joined the RDFNL in 2023 when they set up a Senior Women’s Competition and indicated a strong intention to support women and girls who wanted to play football. We have been highly successful in the RDFNL, winning our first premiership in our inaugural year and reaching the grand final in 2024. Despite these achievements, we continuously faced barriers around support, safety, equitable resources and addressing poor member behaviour within the Kyneton FNC. These concerns were unable to be resolved and we also found it difficult to access support during this time to help us manage the situation.
Due to these ongoing challenges, our coaches, players, and support team made the decision to form our own independent Club, the Kyneton Women's Football Club with the Wedge-tailed eagle as our mascot. As the Kyneton Eagles, our mission is to create a club grounded in strong values that promote equity, equal opportunity and advocates for the necessary support that women’s sport deserves.
Recently, we submitted an application to join the local RDFNL Senior Women's Competition, where we’ve been playing, but under our new Club structure. Unfortunately, we received the devastating news that our application to join and continue to play as our standalone Club was rejected. The decision was made on a discretionary basis, not because we haven’t met any particular criteria.
This decision has left us feeling disheartened, as we have worked tirelessly to build a strong team and foster a vibrant, inclusive community around our team and our new Club. Our players are eager to play community football and represent the Kyneton Eagles on the field, but without the opportunity to join the RDFNL Senior Women's Competition, we face the prospect of missing out on the opportunity to play sport in our local community.
We believe that everyone deserves the chance to play football at a competitive level, and we are asking for your support in reversing this decision.
We need your help to show the league that there is strong support for the Kyneton Women's Football Club and that we deserve a place in their league for the 2025 season.
Our players are ready. Our coaches are ready. Our community is ready. We just want to play football. All we need is the opportunity to show what we can do, and to ensure that women’s football gets the same recognition, respect and opportunities as any other local sport. Our club is financially sustainable, we have amazing sponsors committed to support us as well as plenty of social members joining to be part of our Club.
Please sign this petition and share it with others to help us achieve our goal of competing in the RDFNL Senior Women's Competition in 2025.
Together, we can all ensure that the Kyneton Women’s Football Club has the opportunity to play community football in their local league.
