Let us Make the change!!
The Issue
Dear, Scranton school District Board.
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my concerns about the current uniform policy at our high schools and to advocate for the removal of certain parts of our policy.
First, I believe that students should have the right to express themselves through their clothing choices. Uniforms can stifle individuality and creativity, which are crucial parts of personal development during our school years. Allowing students to wear what they feel comfortable in can boost their confidence and overall wellbeing, and leading to a more positive and engaged learning environment.
Moreover, the financial burden uniforms can place on families cannot be overlooked. Many families struggle to afford the required uniforms, and this can create an unnecessary strain on their finances. By eliminating parts of the uniform policy, we can help reduce this burden and ensure that all students have equal access to education without the added stress of purchasing specific clothing.
It is also important to consider that the current uniform policy does not take into account the diverse needs and preferences of the student body. We are all unique individuals with different tastes and styles, and it is unfair to impose a one-size-fits-all approach. Students should have a choice in what they wear, as this fosters a sense of autonomy and respect for their personal preferences.
In conclusion, removing the unnecessary parts of the uniform policy would not only benefit students by allowing them to express themselves and reducing financial strain on families, but it would also promote a more inclusive and respectful school environment. I kindly urge you to consider these points and to involve students in the decision making process regarding dress codes. We completely understand “dressing professional” for school but not everyone student goes into professional careers or even college. Don’t you think those students need to be included?
