Let There Be Light: Installation of Street Lighting System in Barangay Laurel, San Pascual

The Issue

It is often told that violent crimes happen more during the night rather than day. As per Philippines 2020 Crime & Safety reports, crime still remains a significant concern, especially in urban areas of the country. And truth is, in our locality, some places - often remote areas, lack sufficient street lighting.

Street lights come up with several advantages, mainly promoting and raising awareness on road safety. Additionally, studies have also shown that improved street lighting can reduce crime by an average of 21% in treatment areas where street lighting was increased.

Due to this common dilemma — one that should be immediately solved as this compromises public safety, we, the Catalysts of Change recommends the installment of solar panel street lights for a more cost-effective and nature-friendly alternative compared to its traditional counterparts.

Let There Be Light project will be focusing on one main barangay – Laurel, San Pascual for it is one of those places where there is most likely insufficient street lighting. Areas with such difficulty are most likely in need of immediate action for their communities are prone to fatalities which can largely affect its citizens, particularly drivers and pedestrians.

The lights shall consist of a 10-ft hot dipped galvanized pole for long term use and an 80-watt solar LED street light.

In order to make this possible, we shall seek for the help of authorities and raise enough funds for the solar panel street lights project, to tailor fit the goals of this proposal.

And as we raise our concerns to the locality, we are targeting at least 100 signatures. We, the Catalysts of Change aims to use our voices as we seek for solutions to timely and urgent issues in our community.

"For a brighter road, for a brighter future we behold, no street shall be left unlit."
