Public safety is a top priority for our community, and in the pursuit to ensure it, we have relied on innovative technological solutions. One such solution is the Flock camera system which has been instrumental in aiding law enforcement in Cleveland. Unfortunately, there are discussions about the potential removal of these cameras, and this decision could reverse the progress we've made in ensuring our neighborhoods are safe.

The Flock camera system operates by capturing images of vehicles and identifying license plates. This data can provide crucial evidence in crime-solving efforts and has already shown significant results in reducing vehicle-related crimes, assisting in the recovery of stolen vehicles, and even identifying suspects in more serious offenses. According to recent studies conducted in cities utilizing similar technology, areas with these cameras have witnessed a reduction in crime rates by up to 50%.

Removing the Flock camera system would not only compromise our community's safety but also undermine the efforts of law enforcement who heavily depend on this technology to solve cases efficiently and effectively. These cameras offer a necessary complement to traditional policing by covering areas that might not always be within physical patrolling range.

We understand concerns about privacy, but Flock cameras comply with applicable laws and regulations concerning data handling and storage, ensuring that resident privacy is respected without compromising safety. Proper measures and guidelines are already in place to protect this sensitive information.

We urge the Cleveland City Council to reconsider any plans to discontinue the use of Flock cameras and to continue prioritizing public safety. Retaining this system is a step towards a safer, more secure Cleveland for all its residents. Many of the advocates speaking out against Flock are from Cleveland suburbs or safer neighborhoods of Cleveland. There is a disconnect between their reality and the realities of high-crime neighborhoods.
