I do not support Project 1020 starting a Homeless Shelter in any residential neighborhood.

I do not support Project 1020 starting a Homeless Shelter in any residential neighborhood.

The Issue

Project 10 20 is a relatively new, inexperienced organization trying to start a permanent homeless shelter in a residential neighborhood at 725 W Park St in Olathe, KS. We are asking you to stand against this shelter being placed in any residential neighborhood.

We recognize the need for a potential shelter and appreciate the passion of Project 10 20. We feel like Barb, and her vision for Project 10 20 did not take into account the lasting damage their shelter would have on the existing neighborhood.

Project 10 20 wants to be the go-to Johnson County Shelter. They want to attract beyond Olathe and Johnson County. We feel like this requires careful consideration between Project 10 20, all City Governments of Johnson County, and the Johnson County Government itself to ensure that the location is not in a residential area and not a detriment to the surrounding area it will be placed.

Project 10 20's current plan is to drop off their guests at the public libraries, prior to opening hours, and has caused an undue burden on downtown Olathe, the Olathe Public Libraries and surrounding businesses on Santa Fe. Marc McEver, the co-owner of Olathe Ford has not offered the Olathe Ford Facility as a warming center or overnight shelter for their project, Project 10 20.

If you are 18+ years old and reside in Olathe, KS - please sign our petition and/or send in an email to our representatives. Your signature is a testament that this issue needs to involve the entire Olathe Community as well as other Johnson County communities to address this growing issue and resolve it together as we mirror other successful shelters in our area.
