Let the Boys Play: Support Local Music and Youth Initiative in Brookfield
The Issue
The Boys of Summer are requesting your signature on this petition in show of support and request that they be allowed to continue to play at S.E. Gross Middle School’s lot or any suitable outdoor space within Brookfield with proper authorization, at no cost or damage to any property site.
They have enjoyed the enthusiasm demonstrated by the local residents, of all ages, who have turned out for these impromptu events. In the past, these unscheduled performances have always been on the weekend, before curfew, at an acceptable volume and in compliance with the noise ordinance, with no reported grievances…until now.
Unfortunately, in early Spring of this year, our local law officers brought to their attention that someone had phoned in to file a complaint about their music being played during after school hours, around 4-5pm on a Friday night.
This was completely unexpected since not only did the local firehouse come out to rally the band on and give words of encouragement, but some of our local law officers in Brookfield’s Police Department, have walked over to not only check on the scene, but also applaud their efforts, as well!
We have tried to reach out to whoever was unhappy with the kids playing, to discuss and find an amiable compromise, but no one has come forward to do so.
For those influencers and fans of our local band, who have requested their participation in North Riverside’s Fourth of July parade, performances at their private parties, commented with opinions, expressed their appreciation of their talents, musical drive and initiative on Brookfield Connection, their Facebook pages and posted on various social media outlets, they wish to express their most sincerest gratitude for championing their efforts!
Considering the many destructive behaviors and exploits these teens could be getting into, we hope you recognize their motivation to achieve some semblance of musical and financial success, and love of music. Also, I should mention, none of the 3 band members have a home situation suitable to practice together.
So on their behalf, we are humbly asking, would you please sign this petition and possibly reach out to Principal Lauren Colberg of S.E. Gross Middle School pleading the case of our Boys of Summer’s?
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
