This new article in the Taipei Times, written by Jason Pan, explains why the name "Chinese Taipei" is absurd:

"Most Taiwanese athletes are not from Taipei, and most have said in interviews that they identify as Taiwanese.

In general, they come from working families, from towns and villages across Taiwan. None of them were born in China and none identify as Chinese."

Taiwanese friends, please know that thousands of people from Japan, America, and other countries have signed this petition. We are fully cognizant of the fact that the International Olympic Committee is discriminating against you and violating your rights. If you will stand up for yourselves at the Tokyo Olympics, we will stand with you.
