Let's Transform CitiPark Dale Street into Manchester's New Green Space!
The issue
We, the residents and visitors of Manchester, kindly call upon CitiPark and Manchester City Council to work together to transform the barren, surface-level car park at Manchester Piccadilly Basin near Piccadilly Station and the canal into a beautiful, publicly accessible green park, built over a modern, underground car park.
This is not just about adding grass and trees; it's about seizing a golden opportunity to create a lasting legacy for our city—a vibrant green heart that benefits our community, our environment, and our local economy.
The Problem:
Our city centre is crying out for more green space. Concrete dominates, especially in areas like ours, surrounded by residential and commercial buildings. This vacant lot represents a missed opportunity. It could be so much more than a place to leave your car.
The Vision & Solution:
We propose an innovative and forward-thinking solution: construct a modern, secure, and sheltered underground car park, topped with a stunning new public park.
This "win-win" project would:
- Create a New Green Lung for Manchester: Provide a vital oasis for residents, workers, and visitors to relax, socialise, and enjoy nature right in the heart of the city, next to the canal and Piccadilly Station.
- Boost Business and Revenue: CitiPark would benefit from a state-of-the-art, more secure facility that would become a premier parking destination and iconic landmark, very likely increasing its usage and boosting revenue.
- Create a Landmark: This would not just be a park; it would be a landmark project that shows Manchester is a truly modern, green, and forward-thinking city.
- Support Sustainable Growth: It addresses the need for city centre parking while prioritising people and the planet, reducing the urban heat island effect and promoting biodiversity.
Why Here? Why Now?
This location is perfect. It sits at a major gateway to the city (Manchester Piccadilly Station), beside the picturesque canal, and is surrounded by people who desperately need a place to breathe. Manchester has ambitious environmental goals, and this project is a tangible way to achieve them.
Our Call to Action:
We urge CitiPark to see this not as a loss of land, but as a visionary investment in a more profitable and prestigious facility. We urge Manchester City Council to support this project and use its planning powers to help facilitate a solution that provides immense public benefit.
Please sign this petition to show your support for a greener, more beautiful, and more sustainable Manchester. Let's build this legacy together!
