The Issue

In June 2025, 27-year-old Ridhanya from Tamil Nadu died by suicide after relentless dowry harassment—despite a ₹2.5 crore wedding, 300 sovereigns of gold, and a ₹70 lakh Volvo car.

Who enabled this? Matrimonial platforms and brokers.

These platforms:
- Allow caste and sub-caste filtering
- Enable dowry negotiations through wealth/status profiling
- Do not monitor or act against profiles demanding dowry

These practices violate:
- Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961
- Article 14, 15, and 21 of the Constitution (Right to Equality, Non-Discrimination, Life & Dignity)

📢 We demand:
1️⃣ Ban on caste and sub-caste filters
2️⃣ Strict removal of profiles that reference or demand dowry
3️⃣ Mandatory legal warnings about dowry laws on all profiles
4️⃣ Government regulation of matrimonial platforms
5️⃣ A national awareness campaign on digital dowry abuse
