The state government released a statement this morning announcing community consultation for the 'Swan River Crossings' project. It couldn't be more disappointing.
Essentially they state the following
Community feedback will help inform heritage interpretation, design objectives, urban design and pedestrian and cycling connectivity.
However, it is clear they have already made critical decisions regarding location (has to be built to the east of the current bridge) and retaining the old bridge. Exactly what they require community input for is questionable.
I believe this is a terrible outcome built on flawed assumptions. I don't understand why a new rail crossing will be built when the Port only has 30 years off life left. I also don't understand why not closing infrastructure for any period of time is being used as a criteria to determine great urban design.
Details on the community drop in sessions and the survey are provided in the linked page. There is a 6 week period starting from today.
Only with significant community action, are we going to get the outcomes we are seeking. If anyone would like to be part of an initial meeting to discuss this, please let me know.
Kind regards
Rebecca
