The Cultural Heritage Commission recommends making The Bothwell Ranch a cultural historic monument!
We are one step closer to preserving Bothwell Ranch as a green space with the end goal of transforming it into bio-dynamic, regeneratively managed citrus grove, native habitat restoration project, bee sanctuary, community garden, and overall a property that is building soil health and helping preserve local biodiversity and the history of citrus farming within the City of Los Angeles.
The Commission will publicly share their findings for the first time on Thursday, November 7th during Los Angeles's Department of City Planning meeting at approximately 1 pm at City Hall Room 1010.
The Department of City Planning will hear public comments on the matter so if you're able to attend please do so. If you're unable to make it to the meeting and would still like to show your support, please email Andrew Pennington, Director of Land Use & Planning for Councilmember Bob Blumenfield's Office at andrew.pennington@lacity.org with "Comment from Bothwell Ranch Neighbor/Supporter" in the subject line.
Please note, the monument status does not change the ownership of the property it just makes it more difficult for developers to demolish the grove. The process of finding private donors and/or Foundations or companies interested in co-owning and/or donating the land is open, if you have any ideas or leads please write in the comments!
Another exciting update: Several local organizations have shown interest in helping manage the property.
Now we must focus on encouraging the City, County, and State to do everything they can to ensure this grove is preserved with the intention of holistically building healthy soil and living in harmony with nature.
More updates to come!
Thank you for your support and please notify your LA City Council Member of your interest in this matter and/or use the hashtag #SaveBothwellRanch.
With Gratitude,
Lizzy
